Key Takeaways from Commercial Space Week: Record Turnout, Cross-Sector Partnerships, and the Road to Artemis Infrastructure

ORLANDO, FL – Commercial Space Week 2026 took place last month, serving as the primary nexus for the commercial, civil, and defense sectors. With a focus on translating "frontier science" into "market momentum," the event welcomed nearly 5,000 registered attendees, and 212 speakers. The event also saw the largest number of exhibiting companies, marking a 6.4% increase in participation and an 18% increase in square footage compared to 2025.

Event Highlights

  • Deep Dive into Commercial Viability: In a high-impact keynote presentation, Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society, outlined the "Science-to-Market" pipeline, arguing that national planetary defense and exploration are the primary catalysts for private sector growth in the 2030s.

  • The "Trillion Dollar" Convergence: Leaders from Andromeda Ventures, KPMG, and NASA discussed the transition of mission-critical technologies into venture-backed companies, specifically highlighting space-enabled infrastructure - including power systems, in-space manufacturing, and orbital data platforms - as the next major investment vertical.

  • Defense and Civil Integration: Co-location with Space Mobility and the GSA Spaceport Summit facilitated high-level dialogues between the U.S. Space Force and private launch providers regarding the future of domestic spaceport resiliency.

  • A Launchpad for Innovation: Several organizations debuted new offerings during SpaceCom.

  • The University of Central Florida launched a master class series, designed for senior leaders and seasoned professionals, offering focused, high-value sessions that connect academic expertise with real-world applications.

  • Space Grove Ventures, a new company founded by Dr. Melissa Patton, offers connective infrastructure, helping bridge government mission needs with private-sector execution and investment readiness.

  • Dr. Christyl C. Johnson and Christian Elam launched Andromeda Ventures, a new platform aimed at supporting mission-critical, dual-use technologies that enhance infrastructure, security, and human capabilities on Earth.

Executive Perspective

"The 2026 program moved beyond the 'why' of space exploration and into the 'how' of space business," said SpaceCom Executive Director, Ryan Brown. "Media and industry observers witnessed a shift this week: the conversation is no longer just about getting to orbit, but about the sustainable, profitable infrastructure required to stay there."
