Brian McCarthy
Brian is currently a civil servant at NASA as the Artemis Mission Design Integration Lead at Johnson Space Center, where he helps lead the team designing the upcoming Artemis III, IV and V missions. Prior to his current role as a civil servant, Brian worked for a.i. solutions as a mission design engineer. He helped lead the mission design team for the lunar Gateway program as well as supporting real time operations as a trajectory subject matter expert during Artemis II in Mission Control at JSC. He also supported business and product development at a.i. solutions and led several IRAD projects focused on cislunar trajectory design.
Brian has received numerous NASA agency achievement awards for work across his career as well as an Exceptional Achievement Award from a.i. solutions in 2025, the highest award given to an employee of the company for outstanding support of cislunar mission development. He is an active member of the American Astronautical Society (AAS) spaceflight mechanics technical committee as well as a member of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Flight Mechanics Technical Discipline Team. Brian received his Ph.D. and M.S. in aerospace engineering at Purdue University and bachelors degrees in aerospace and ocean engineering at Virginia Tech.
