Connie LaMorte
Connie LaMorte has 30 years of experience in the material joining industry, with expertise in the areas of laser-based vision, in-process monitoring, adaptive welding, and automation and robotics. She has developed inspection and control solutions in a range of industries with an emphasis on weld-related defect detection and in-process monitoring. She has expertise developing custom hardware and software solutions with the implementation of automation in the field. Connie also provides expert support in the development of automated inspection, adaptive welding systems, and algorithms for adaptive control. She is currently leading EWI’s innovations in tele-manufacturing technologies including tele-welding, tele-inspection, and other tele-presence-controlled manufacturing technologies.
Connie developed the concept of tele-manufacturing for material joining applications. She pushed developments of the novel technology and moved the research from TRL 3- 8 for processes in the heavy manufacturing industry. She has five patents pending for EWI in tele-manufacturing, including welding and material removal processes. Connie has developed automated inspection systems for on and off-shore ID pipe welds, eventually deployable over a dozen systems in fabrication facilities and on off-shore platforms. For repair, she helped develop a system for detection of cracks for an aerospace part and then automated repair of defects using a laser additive manufacturing process. This method and eventual deployed system helped to automate a proprietary process that had previously been completed manually by a small number of experts in the field. Connie holds additional patents in synergic welding control methodology and welder training system design.
