CEO, Odin Space

Dr James New is a space entrepreneur and leading authority on orbital debris and space situational awareness. He is the Co-Founder and CEO of Odin Space, a company pioneering ultra-sensitive sensor technology to map lethal sub-centimeter debris and deliver critical collision intelligence for a safer, more sustainable space economy.

James holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Astrophysics & Space Science and Quantum Physics from the University of Kent, where he also completed a Ph.D. developing the Orbital Debris and Interplanetary (ODIN) Dust Detector. During his research, he collaborated with NASA’s Orbital Debris Program Office on the Space Debris Sensor (SDS) mission aboard the International Space Station. He later joined UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory, contributing to NASA’s MatISSE program and the development of the Enceladus Organic Analyzer, a life-detection instrument for deep-space exploration.

As CEO of Odin Space, James leads efforts to revolutionize Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), building the data infrastructure and risk intelligence that underpin the future of sustainable orbital operations. His work sits at the intersection of science, technology, insurance and policy - advancing the safety, resilience, and commercial viability of space activity worldwide.
