Matthew Ramsey
As the Artemis II Mission Manager and currently HLS Mission Manager, Matt brings over 35 years of technical and management experience in Design, Development, Test, and Evaluation (DDT&E) of missile, rocket, and spaceflight hardware and software systems. He also has significant experience in the construction and utilization of detailed simulations to determine system level environments and overall launch vehicle and spacecraft performance. He has recently served as the Artemis II Mission Manager. That 10 day mission sent 4 astronauts on a free return trajectory around the moon for the first time in 50 years. Prior spaceflight experience included serving as Technical Assistant in the Space Launch System Systems (SLS) Engineering and Integration Office at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Program Lead for Integrated System Level SLS Analysis, Ares I and Ares V Vehicle Integration Lead for Integrated Design and Analysis, and X-37 Integration Lead for Design, Analysis, and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C). Prior to that Mr. Ramsey worked as a contractor for the Department of Defense in the development of detailed simulations to determine performance of US and foreign air defense systems. Born and raised in Hernando, Mississippi, he graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Aerospace Engineering.
Mr. Ramsey has thirty five years of experience in traditional systems and systems of systems engineering disciplines (requirements synthesis, requirements validation and verification, planning and execution of rocket/missile design analysis cycles, natural and induced environments generation, top level force-on-force to detailed multi-degree of freedom (6 DOF+) simulation development) with the Department of Defense (DoD), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and NASA. Twenty-five years of experience in highly technical sectors as a leader and manager (team lead, complex simulation and analysis lead, program management positions).
